Returning to school counseling after 4 years away from this part of public education has been no joke. I don’t see enough content about school counselors, so I decided to start sharing what parts of a typical day looks like for me. š”
With my school district undergoing restructuring, I am nervous about what my future will be, and I feel a duty to make sure the stories of school counselors are being told. I wish back in 2019/2020 I knew what I know now – I think I could have enjoyed my time more. š
Now, as I reflect on my time in school counseling, both then and now, I can say it can be a rewarding and challenging career for many people, if they have the right tools and people to work with. I want to shine a light on that part of the job, too. Many wonderful counselors and educators took the time to teach me and help me learn the educational lingo and structures, and I will always remember them.

I am a school counselor who wears many hats in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment. As fall break comes to a close, I am taking time to enjoy the last few days with my family, filling up my cup so I can pour into others when I return.
Shout-out to all of the school counselors and educators out there. I hope you are taking a moment for yourself.
Nova.
